Law Enforcement Officer Job Description
Duties Respond to emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service during watch; respond to and conduct preliminary investigations relating to incidents aboard installations. Gather and analyze the facts, seize and protect evidence, take statements, make diagrams, interview witnesses and other persons involved, and determine if facts warrant apprehension/detention or lesser actions.Check identification cards, badges and/or vehicle decals as well as vehicles. Inspect packages and personal belongings when admitting personnel into controlled areas. Set-up and conduct checkpoints/roadblocks at various locations throughout the installation. Perform traffic law control and enforcement; direct movement of vehicles/pedestrians and observe and report traffic safety hazards.Distribute and balance workload and rotations among police officers. Administer anti-terrorism, force protection, physical security, and law enforcement services for the protection of life and property. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment.Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002.Candidates for LEO positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment of the Gun Control Act. Within the Department of Defense, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. This may be a bargaining unit position. You may be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.This may be a Drug Testing position. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate a knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations; knowledge of law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques; knowledge of maintaining order and protecting life and property. Examples of the specialized experience must encompass and/or pertain to one of the following: seizing and protecting evidence, interviewing witnesses and taking statements, or conducting preliminary investigations or conducting traffic stops or detaining citizens for violations of law; or subduing or disarming individuals.
