Very good first printing in good dustwrapper. The book is square and quite tight but with darkening/age toning to the paper stock which is of very poor quality. Creasing to the lower lead corners of the first 10 leaves. Foxing and spots to the prelims and paste downs. Two sections of gouging to the top edge. The dustwrapper is largely present but has been strengthened and repaired by tape. The attraction of this copy is the warm and lengthy contemporary inscription on the front endpaper to a close friend, dated October 1st 1960- 'Albert "Johnny" Johnston, my good friend, who read chapter I when it was a short story and told me to go on from there-with gratitude and affection and confidence in the rightness of his new career- Ed (E.L.)
